Under the Wildwood Styled Shoot

Wild Rose Events Dallas Fort Worth wedding Florist at Wedding Venue in Dallas Fort Worth Under the Wildwood

This shoot was at a new gorgeous rustic wedding venue in Greenville Texas called Under the Wildwood.  It is surrounded by old oak trees and water – I would love to spend a lazy day there just enjoying the property! The land has been in the family for over 25 years and they now use it as a gorgeous wedding venue in Dallas Fort Worth!

Dallas wedding florist, Wild Rose Events partnered on a wedding styled shoot at dallas wedding venue called Under the Wildwood.

We had two couples, six photographers, and so many incredible Dallas wedding vendors to coordinate the shoot! You would be surprised how different each photographer interpreted the same things.  I’ll show some of my favorite images separated by photographer below:

We did a gorgeous fabric wedding arch with flowers for the indoor ceremony, and it truly made for a whimsical wedding feel!

Our most recent Boho Chic wedding is featured in this post. This wonderful couple, Lauren and Chris, chose their package specifics and colors for their wedding and let us run with it! She was stress-free and over the moon about our designs…

“I think it’s always best to let someone who is in a creative industry, have creative freedom. I don’t know much about flowers so I knew it was best to let my florist do her thing. Obviously we talked about color palettes, themes, and overall style I had in mind for the wedding, and let her take care of the rest! Everything turned out beautiful! I definitely feel like letting her decide took a lot of stress off of me, and helped me stay within my budget as well!” – Lauren, Bride

Better Safe Than Sorry

Wild Rose Events Dallas Fort Worth wedding Florist at Wedding Venue in Dallas Fort Worth Under the Wildwood, Wedding Centerpieces and place settings

Advice from our Lead Designer and Wedding Industry Veteran, Domonie:

Most of us in the wedding industry work to provide the best value and best quality for the bride.  But there are some for whom priorities are a little different – a dirty little secret if you will.

This dirty little secret is kickbacks – and they come in several different forms.  Regardless of the form, they are not in the best interest of the bride.

Here at Wild Rose Events & Floral Design (WRE), our 25+ years in the industry have provided us with experience in dealing with these ‘kickbacks’ and how to avoid them. We have compiled a list of what to look for and how to avoid being scammed into using lower quality vendors! We believe you deserve nothing less than the best and to be protected from the worst on your wedding day.

Form 1.  Many venues and planners have a preferred vendor list – this is good, but some vendors may or may not be the best option for you. When venues or planners only recommend those who pay to be recommended that reduces the value of the endorsement by the venue.  In these cases it is a flat rate to be on the list and this may seem to give the venue merit since they, in essence, advertise for the vendor. But often these vendors are just those willing to pay and not chosen on the quality of their work.  Quality venues, planners and vendors all benefit from recommending the best service or product provider for their client in the end and don’t need a kickback. Take recommendations from wedding professionals, these are very helpful, but also do your own research to insure you get the best service and product for your dollar.

Form 2: In more insidious situations the venue or planner actually requires that a vendor pay a percentage of their sales to the venue or planner. In some cases this is as much as 30%! This expense must be covered somehow, either by passing along the expense through higher prices to the bride or by reducing expenses in other areas resulting in less quality service and/or product. Often, if the bride wishes to bring in her own vendors, she must pay a fee to the venue to do so, the venue wants to recoup that lost kickback revenue. (*Note: many venues charge a fee for bringing in your own caterer or bar service – this is a different issue I will address below.) Again, quality venues, planners and vendors not only offer a superior product and/or service, they are honest and allow their works to speak for themselves without having to take a cut from other vendors.

Form 3: Bride Gathers – There are several “businesses” trying to jump on what they consider to be the gravy train.  But SURPRISE! They are not an actual wedding vendor! They are jumping in trying to get brides to join their website or come to their event where they can charge vendors to have access to the bride.  They provide no real service to the bride as they only connect the brides to vendors willing to pay a fee or percentage; a so-called ‘middle man’.  They are not a necessary element to the industry as they do not fill a real need.  Word of mouth, professional recommendations and honest Google or Facebook reviews are a great way to find quality vendors!

How to protect yourself:

Ask vendors, venues, and friends – who they know and recommend.  (Do your own research – every bride’s needs are different! i.e. Google and Facebook Reviews)

Ask your venue choices if they have a vendor list and if the vendors pay to be on it.

Ask your venues if they have an open vendor policy – meaning can you bring in your own vendors without paying a fee.  (It is perfectly acceptable and actually important to restrict to vendors that provide proof of business liability insurance as it protects everyone)

In addition to the above, there are many great bridal shows and open houses that allow you to see the quality of work from many vendors all at one time. This also allows you to interact with the vendor to see if they are a good fit for you! BONUS: You can often times enter in to drawings to win great prizes and you may walk away with some great swag!

We are fortunate to work with quality vendors whose reputations speak for themselves. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for top-notch recommendations. No kickbacks, scouts honor!

Happy Planning 🙂

Domonie is a seasoned wedding professional in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with over 25 years in the Wedding and Floral Industry.

*Many venues restrict caterer and bartender choices, and/or charge a fee to bring in your own.  This is often because of issues of liability and extra work – if a bartender over serves and the worst happens it can put the venue in a position of being in a lawsuit regarding whether they were liable or not. This is expensive – so it is in everyone’s best interest that the bar vendor be of sterling quality and have all the right licenses, certificates and insurance.  With catering  there is also liability risks with food service and issues when the caterer does not clean up and leaves a large mess for the venue to address.  There are often kickbacks in these areas as well – but many venues, who do not do kickbacks, do restrict in these categories for the listed reasons.

8 ‘Must-Dos’ When Planning Your Destination Wedding

Destination wedding in Banff Canada Wedding florist wild rose events, Things to know about a destination wedding

There is a bug going around infecting lots of newly-engaged couples. Symptoms include: wedding fever, restlessness and a burning desire to head to the airport. If you or your fiance’ have experienced any of these symptoms, you may have the travel bug (aka destination wedding-itis)! It can be quite contagious but a wonderful bug to catch 😉

Here at Wild Rose Events and Floral Design, destination weddings are a specialty of ours! We have done weddings from California to Canada and many places in between; enjoying every minute and mile!

Destination weddings are a fabulous idea, but they require more planning than local weddings for our brides! We have compiled a list of must-do’s when planning your destination wedding to help ease the stress and help you enjoy your wedding destination of choice!

1 – Choose the Perfect Spot

Anyone can take a dart and throw it at a map to choose where they want to get married (though that might mean you would get married in a corn field in Nebraska…). We feel it is best practice to pick a place that means something to both of you! Whether it be where you met, your first vacation together or even a place that you both think is beautiful! If you choose it with your heart, you can’t go wrong! BONUS – It will be a great anniversary vacation destination in the future!

2 – Take a Wedding Planning ‘Vacay’

Be sure to visit your destination at least once before your wedding! So many things can go awry when someone gets married close to home, but even more can happen when you aren’t familiar with local cultures, customs, accommodations and so much more! It’s best to take the time to visit and be prepared whether you have been there before or not. Meet with your vendors in person, tour the area as much as you can and most of all, enjoy the process!

3 – Timing is of the Essence

Mother Nature doesn’t always play nice. The Carribean has Hurricanes and  Canada has Blizzards! Do your homework to find the right time of year (and even day!) to say I DO. Another thing to consider is that at certain times of the year, some venues, hotels or other vendors may offer better deals because it is the off season. Getting married at a less popular time of year means little to no tourists gawking at your ceremony! Additionally, plan for the unpredictable. If your location is known for spontaneous rain storms, have a back-up venue or have umbrellas (or even sunscreen) for your guests!

4 – $$$$$$$$$$$$$

Budget is 9 times out of 10 the biggest factor in wedding planning, but even more so for a destination wedding! Be sure to factor in the extra expenses that a destination wedding can incur. If you’re bringing your own wedding professionals with you, you’ll need to budget for their travel expenses and accomodations. Heading abroad? Passports and plane tickets can add up quickly! And, of course, different countries have different currencies and pricing standards – be hyper-aware of the exchange rate and pricing practices.

5 – Wedding Planners are worth their weight in GOLD!

They may not shine as much as gold, but wedding planners are just as valuable! Wedding Planners eat weddings for breakfast, they breathe weddings all day and dream about weddings all night. They know what needs to be done! Rely on them to help you to plan your  long-distance wedding. They are a valuable tool that will save your sanity and ensure that your big day goes as smoothly as possible! Wild Rose Events and Floral design specializes in wedding and event coordination. Visit our coordination page to browse our packages: https://wildroseevents.com/coordination/

6 – Research Local Marriage Laws

Some countries (or even states) may have their own rules for how, what, when and why when it comes to your nuptials. Work with your wedding planner to figure out if you need to be to your destination earlier, provide extra paper work, or anything else that may be a requirement before you walk down the aisle. For example, Germany only recognizes a civil ceremony as a legal marriage, so you may need to have a separate religious ceremony if it is important to you. Visit https://www.marryabroad.co.uk/marriage-requirements.shtml for more information on this subject.

7 – Organize, Organize, Organize

Binders, folders, calendars and reminders/alerts are a bride-to-be’s best friend. This goes for destination AND local weddings. You can never be too organized and if you follow our advice above, you’ll have a wedding planner to help you!

Destination Wedding

8 – ENJOY EVERY MINUTE

Whether it’s your first wedding or your 4th, you’re getting married for a reason. LOVE. With all the linen choices, cake tastings, dress fittings and songs to choose, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lose site of the true reason for this joyous occasion. Accept as much help as you can so you can relax and enjoy this beautiful experience. It’s truly unique and a blessing to say the least!

Muas

What is a MUA?  It is the industry shorthand for MakeUp Artist. As with all areas of the wedding industry their are the good the bad and the downright ugly!

I have a number of favorite MUA’s – and they are so popular you need to book early to get on their books!!  These pros will do as they say and make you look stellar for your special day.

Here a few of my favorites:

One of the first MUA’s I really got to know is Michaela with Kiss and Makeup DFW.  She has taken my brides with lots of scars and made their skin look perfect and ready for their cover shoots!  I have been blown away at the amazing transformation!
